Dream Of A Dream Of A Moment In Time

Dream Of A Dream Of A Moment In Time

Natasha France’s practice is deeply connected to the natural karst landscapes surrounding her, drawing inspiration from water, stone, light, and terrain. Blending traditional techniques with instinct, France pairs abstract forms and subtle coloration to explore memory, nostalgia, and longing — investigating the relationship between the natural world and the symbolic influence it holds over the human spirit. France's work engages with spirituality and the subconscious, creating paintings that are both intimate and expansive, at once philosophical and transcendent. Often working at a large scale, France composes pieces that invite stillness and reflection, offering viewers the opportunity to rediscover forgotten reservoirs of feeling — loss, renewal, desire, or hope.

France's  process is one of patience and surrender. Over weeks, she builds each work through staining, soaking, layering, and drying heavy raw canvas. Pigments seep and spread into organic forms, crystallizing into unique contours that echo geological surfaces — the grain of wood, the texture of cliff faces, desert ridges, or ocean foam. This marbled effect, consistent throughout France's body of work, mimics natural landforms as though seen from a great distance, while indistinct silhouettes emerge and fade, suggesting layered meanings and spiritual motifs.
